About Us

Greater Vancouver Baptist Church is a diverse, multicultural community of people who are devoted to loving God, loving each other, and spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ to our community and the world. GVBC is commited to reaching people in the Greater Vancouver area as well as those around the world through our global missions program.

Our History

Greater Vancouver Baptist Church was started in July 1982 by Pastor Gordon Conner and wife Josselyn. The church began to meet as Bethel Baptist Church in the Sunset Community Centre. After several years the church outgrew its location and moved into rented facilities at the Wilson Heights United Church on 41st Ave. In 1990, the Lord provided our current location at the corner of Kingsway and Victoria through a merger with the Peoples Fellowship Tabernacle. The two churches continued on under the leadership of Pastor Conner under the name Tabernacle Baptist Church. In 2005, the church officially changed its name to Greater Vancouver Baptist Church. Throughout the years we have seen the Lord bless His church here in this great city.

What We Believe

A church is always about “belief.” What people believe has tremendous impact on how they live, the things they value and how they find purpose. Everyone “believes” something. Not all churches “believe” the same thing and many don’t follow what they say they believe. Greater Vancouver Baptist Church accepts the Bible to be the Word of God and thus, it is the source of truth and all that we believe.

It is a Book to be trusted and embraced. Its pages are filled with God’s personal message to the human race. In it we find hope and direction for our lives and our families. God is alive and very much interested in us, His special creation. He has chosen to communicate with us through His Word, the Bible and we are wise to believe and follow it’s words.

Our “Statement of Faith” is a brief summary of teaching we have gleaned from the Bible only.
No man-made documents or edicts were considered – the Bible is sufficient and we have endeavoured to be faithful students of it.
